Hello and welcome! The site is newly redesigned (by me, so don’t get your hopes up) with plenty of fresh material. Here’s a question for you: what do we talk about when we talk about literature? You’ll have your own answer, or maybe answers, but here’s mine: when we talk about literature, we’re really talking about the world—life, actions and their consequences, the historical and social context of our lives, how we see those things–and how all of that is represented in novels and poems and stories and plays and movies.

Please enjoy this site and feel free to contact me with suggestions for improvements, comments about my books, or questions on all things literary.

And don’t forget to look for my recent book, How to Read Poetry Like a Professor, and my brand new How to Read Nonfiction Like a Professor online and in bookstores (when they reopen) from HarperCollins!
